Give Me a Lightbulb

Aardvark, Hacktheweb, now...

Ever since Firefox 57, and the demise of many fine addons, I have been seeking an adequate replacement for Hacktheweb. Before that, there was Aardvark. But since FF 57, I have been struggling — often using Seamonkey so that I can still benefit from Hacktheweb.

Just today (!) I ran across a comment which pointed me to “Print Edit WE”. So far, it seems to be working well. Used in conjunction with the make.text bookmarklet, which converts webpages to Markdown, it is a thing of beauty.

Update (23.06.2021) — well, truth be told, I’m less enthusiastic about “Print Edit WE” … its use isn’t as intuitive as I thought, and I’m not always able to make the interventions I’m aiming for. But! Today I ran across “Aardvark Duex” which resurrects the original (in my experience) page-cleaner-upper. Initial use is very promising, and gets me back to what HackTheWeb and the older Aardvark provided. Relief!

Phew! But, are there other replacement options I should consider? If so, please leave a pointer. Thanks!

Update 2 (12.05.2022) — well, a new alternative appears. Christian Heilmann just released his “Quick Edit Bookmarklet” which seems to have packaged up in a very simple way the chief functionality I loved in “HackTheWeb” = removing stuff from a webpage before print or screenshot.
